Guava Daniels

On the Lower East Side of Manhattan, NYC, there's a great restaurant with stunning cocktails. "Macondo brings Latino comida de la calle (Latin street food) to the gourmet level with a menu offering seven different signature items representative of cuisines from all over the Spanish-speaking world. It serves arepas from Venezuela, cocas from Barcelona, churros con chocolate from Spain, and tacos from Mexico and features a Brazilian Juice Bar with freshly-squeezed extracts."

In short, it is amazing.

The Guava + Whiskey cocktail was the first Macondo cocktail that I tried. I loved it so much that I decided to make it into an shaved iced dessert.

I added some strawberry for color and lemon to bring out the flavors. On a hot day after a long day of work, this can really transport you back to your imaginary vacation.

Gin & Tonic sorbet

It's almost the weekend. Time to celebrate.

This sorbet, nay this pillowy delight of boozy snow, is divine. In the past, I haven't been crazy about gin (there was an incident in college), but it's been getting on my good side this summer. Certainly, this sorbet was a big tipping point in my developing appreciation for the juniper flavor.

Because what could be better than a gin & tonic than a frozen gin & tonic? And what could be better than enjoying a frozen gin and tonic from your balcony watching the sun set? That's as good as it gets.

Caramelized Fig and Port Ice Cream

My cousin Jeff and his wife Emily have a great blog, Brooklyn Farm and an incredible home.

Last summer I had fresh fig ice cream with Brooklyn Farm. It was one of my favorite memories of New York!

Figs have a great crunch, and port wine adds depth of flavor. I also like how the alcohol in the mixture keeps the ice cream soft.

I'm looking forward to using fresh figs when they are in season later this summer. Dried figs have good flavor, but you just can't beat the vibrant color of fresh figs. See?

banana bourbon caramel

I debuted the Banana Bourbon Caramel ice cream flavor at a Mardi Gras party, and it was an instant hit!

I first tasted this flavor at a state fair-themed birthday party. The brown sugar gives this flavor a buttery flavor while the caramel ribbon provides surprising crunches. The banana flavor is familiar while the bourbon keeps you reaching for another scoop.

Sometimes I make my own caramel, but I was feeling lazy and melted childhood caramel cubes.

Let me know if you want to try this flavor!
